| iO | | Global | | VP Global Sales |
iO is a mobile content management and delivery business, which spun-out from BT in summer 2005, with venture capital backing from trans-Atlantic fund, New Venture Partners.
iO enables mobile network operators to deliver a world class content experience to their consumers - with the associated benefits of increased ARPU and loyalty - through the provision of an end-to-end white label-managed service.
The role of the VP Global Sales is to rapidly build a customer base amongst the world's mobile network operators and to thus fuel the continued growth of the organisation.
Spectrum was mandated by iO's Chief Executive Officer on 16th March. Five candidates were presented on 31st March and subsequently interviewed by the CEO on 6th April. On 22nd April, the preferred candidate was interviewed by further iO executives as well as New Venture Partners' iO Board members.
The selected candidate commenced employment at iO on 1st August 2005.
"We were delighted to hire a candidate who brought extensive experience of selling to mobile network operators both in Europe and Asia Pacific" commented Brendan Dowling, iO's Chief Executive Officer "but also an ideal combination of blue chip multinational experience at Nokia combined with more recent early-stage experience in highly entrepreneurial environments".
Spectrum has since been mandated by iO to search for a VP Global Content.
| AGI | | United Kingdom | | UK Country Manager |
American Greetings is the world's largest publicly listed creator, manufacturer and distributor of social expression products. It has a market capitalization exceeding $2bn, employing 20,000 worldwide, and is home to one of the world's largest creative studios.
AG Interactive (AGI) is the corporation's new media subsidiary, which includes the recently acquired K-Mobile in France (a high-profile wireless content leader) and key brand, Kiwee (an established European player in the mobile content provider arena).
As a result of this growth, a Country Manager was required for the UK - the key European market for AGI - to manage and develop relationships with the UK networks of all the major mobile operators and providers of instant messaging services, such as MSN and their Messenger product.
With this in mind, Spectrum was retained in January 2005. Having conducted a thorough search through a well defined list of media, content, aggregation and portal businesses in the UK, a shortlist of five candidates was presented on the 4th February. Following an initial first round of interviews with AGI in London, three candidates were invited to meet further members of the management team in Paris.
The successful candidate, Christian Harris - formerly Partnership Director at Zed -was offered the role on 27th May, and commenced employment with AGI on the 6th June.
"We were delighted by the speed and quality of Spectrum's work, the professionalism and superb follow-up and the added value they provided in recommending both a firm of lawyers and accountants to further support our new UK operation. This was the best experience I have had with a recruiter in my professional experience" commented John Dearborn, Senior Vice President and General Manager, AG International.
Telcordia Technologies is a leading global provider of telecommunications network software and services for IP, wireless and cable. By delivering flexible, standards-based software solutions and consulting services that optimise complex network and business support systems, the company helps customers to aggressively reduce costs and grow revenues.
A subsidiary of SAIC, a Fortune 500 employee-owned company, Telcordia has annual revenues of over $1 billion and 3500 employees throughout the USA, Canada, Europe and Central and South America.
For some time, Telcordia's London headquartered operation had been searching for a Director, International Human Resources but without finding the individual who represented an optimum fit to Telcordia's tightly-defined specification.
Having engaged Spectrum in late February 2004, Telcordia's GM Europe was presented with two candidate profiles within seven working days. Both candidates were interviewed, with one progressing to 2nd and 3rd interviews, before being formally offered the position on 31st March - which was accepted.
"Our brief was challenging in that we required an experienced HR practitioner with extensive experience across mainland Europe who could operate equally effectively at a strategic and operational level, and who was accustomed to the challenges and opportunities inherent in a mid-size technology growth business" commented Richard Evans, General Manager Europe at Telcordia Technologies "We had been looking for some time, and are delighted that Spectrum was able to pick up this key mandate and complete it so quickly and efficiently".

"I am delighted that Adan has joined Cramer" commented Don Gibson, Cramer's CTO & Co-Founder "we expect him to be one of the key members of the Cramer organisation moving forward".

Interoute is a privately-held company whose i-21 network is the largest in Europe. Interoute's services include: bandwidth, VPN, and high-speed internet access, as well as transit, managed hosting, communications services and media streaming.
Interoute had been searching for 3 months for an individual to join its highly-empowered product group, to lead its internet services business before briefing Spectrum on 31st October 2003. A month later, Ian Cameron, former CTO of web-hosting firm CityReach, had joined Interoute.
"The challenge to the search was to find an individual who understood internet services in-depth from a technical perspective, who had taken full commercial responsibility for internet services and who had set strategy whilst remaining resolutely 'hands-on' in their approach - and who had already done all this on a pan-European scale" commented Tom Frankfort VP Products & Services at Interoute. "I am delighted that within a month of engaging Spectrum, having been looking for some time previously, we found this person in Ian Cameron".

Cramer Systems is a leading provider of inventory management and provisioning automation software to the global telecoms industry and was voted 'Best Overall OSS Company' at Telestrategies World 2003. Founded in the UK in 1996, the company's significant track record of growth in a volatile market has been consistently recognised in both The Sunday Times Tech Track 100 and the Deloitte & Touche Fast 500 compilations of fast-growth enterprises.
Having won over a dozen new contracts during 2002, the company wanted to capitalise on its success - and continue its growth - by establishing a direct presence in strategically important territories in Europe.
In this regard, Spectrum was retained to recruit a regional leader to drive business development activity across the DACH region, with a strategic focus upon the Deutsche Telekom group.
The search focused on Frankfurt, Munich and Dusseldorf and embraced those within OSS and BSS vendors, CRM and e-business solutions providers and a number of system integrators and specialist consultancies.
The successful candidate commences employment with Cramer in October 2003.
"A thorough understanding of complex enterprise sales, extensive experience of Deutsche Telekom's requirements, and a sound cultural fit were absolute prerequisites with regard to this critical hire, which will enable Cramer to build on its existing customer base within the region" said Steve Hurn VP Worldwide Sales at Cramer.
Wholly-owned by US buy-out firm Platinum Equity, NextiraOne is the largest independent communications solutions provider in the world. With a strong enterprise focus, the organisation provides vendor-independent managed and specialist services across Europe and North America.
Having appointed a new Managing Director in May 2003 to lead the revitalisation of the UK operation, an experienced Sales Director was sought to inject a fresh approach and mentality - and provide real leadership - to the sales organisation. The right candidate would not only be able to meet short-term revenue objectives, but also grow revenues five-fold over a medium-term horizon.
In week 2 of the search, a benchmark candidate was interviewed by NextiraOne and in week 5, five further 1st-round interviews took place. Within 8 weeks the process was fully completed, by which time the UK Managing Director had successfully recruited a Finance Director and Services Director to fully complete his senior management team line-up.

ready for production. The interesting challenge for me was to utilise all my experience to bring their products successfully into the growing 10 gigabit ethernet market globally. To do this successfully, I need to combine the in-house-manufacturing capability with the best external partners for testing and assembly. Our customers demand volume production and excellent quality control in our manufacturing process and for this to be achieved as cost effectively as possible".
"We are delighted with the introduction and subsequent impact that John Elder has had on Optillion and we appreciate the pro-active approach that Spectrum takes when working with us" said Ivan Bernard-Brunel, Principal EMEA Crescendo Ventures.

| Cramer | | Global | | Head of Global Customer Care |
Cramer Systems is a leading provider of inventory management and service automation solutions to the global telecoms industry. Founded in the UK in 1996, the company's significant track record of growth has been consistently recognised in both The Sunday Times Tech Track 100 and the Deloitte & Touche Fast 500 compilations of fast-growth enterprises. Cramer was voted 'Best Overall Company' at Telestrategies OSS World 2003.
As Cramer's success with tier one telecommunications operators continued - winning customers such as BT and KPN in the second half of 2003 - it became essential for the organisation to build a genuinely world-class customer care organisation on a global basis, to provide the levels of support and service that such customers would demand once Cramer's solution had been successfully implemented.
With this in mind, Cramer retained Spectrum to recruit the individual that would lead this effort. The search process pursued by Spectrum identified a number of individuals with the correct skillset, who were operating within technology organisations that had built a worldwide reputation for their customer care capability.
Having been retained in late November 2003, a shortlist of 5 candidates was presented to Cramer prior to Christmas, and the selected candidate, John Hallis, formally accepted an offer of employment from Cramer late January.
"I was delighted with the quality and efficiency of the search and selection process" commented Douglas Gracie, VP Global Services at Cramer. "In hiring John, we have obtained an individual whose experience with Cisco Systems and Hutchison Whampoa globally will be of tremendous benefit to Cramer".
| HTK | | United Kingdom | | UK Sales Director |
The Client: An owner managed UK technology business
HTK is an owner funded and managed technology organisation based in Ipswich. Founded in 1996, HTK's mission is to establish itself as the UK leader for the provision of Customer Interaction Management software products, delivered as a secure managed service, and leveraging next generation telecommunication network capability and web standards. HTK's customers include BT, BBC, Vodafone, Financial Times, Metropolitan Police and o2 - for whom HTK provide and maintain critical IVR services for the UK mobile phone operator's 12.5 million pre-pay and 7 million post-pay customers.
The Challenge: Driving continued growth
To continue to drive its revenue growth - which had just been recognised in the 2005 Tech Track 100 rankings of Britain's fastest-growing private tech companies - HTK sought to hire a Sales Director. The Sales Director's skillset would have to be multi-faceted to deliver value to HTK. As a member of the senior management team and with responsibility for defining the market proposition, segmenting the market, and thus defining the sales and marketing plan, a well-developed set of strategic skills was required. However, this had to be complemented with a "hands-on" approach: as initially it would be a standalone role with personal responsibility for driving sales, before steadily building-out a sales and marketing team.
The Solution
Mandated by founder and Chief Executive Officer Marlon Bowser, Spectrum undertook a search of the UK telco services market, which was further refined to focus on candidates with specific IVR and speech recognition sector experience. Headhunted candidates were appraised by Spectrum on their specific experience in this domain, as well as their sales style and track record, hunger for further success, and ability to operate both strategically and tactically.
HTK were presented with a shortlist of four candidates by Spectrum, of which two progressed to 3rd client interview where they each were asked to present their initial sales and marketing plan to the Board.
The selected candidate, Chris Ford, joined HTK in spring 2006. Previously, he had spent ten years with Philips, latterly running its £17 million Speech Processing sales and support operation in the UK, Ireland & South Africa. In 2003, the business was acquired by Scansoft for whom Chris worked for 14 months before joining an embryonic speech recognition start-up. Chris possesses extensive knowledge with regard to the speech recognition market gained within MNC, growth, and start-up environments. He built a complex and effective go-to-market strategy at Philips, which embraced a number of different operator, OEM, enterprise markets. Whilst building and managing a team, he remained "hands-on", personally driving the operator market activity, which embraced BT amongst others.
"Our industry is very specialised and I really didn't think that we would be able to find candidates with the mix of experience, skills and aptitude that we were looking for. Spectrum exceeded my expectations and quickly delivered an exceptional short-list. The whole process was highly structured, professionally conducted, and we achieved an excellent result. I'm delighted with the appointment of our new Sales Director and cannot recommend Spectrum highly enough." Marlon Bowser, Chief Executive Officer.
